Vice President of Engineering & Design

What We’re Looking For:
Manufacturer of next generation Solid-State Power Amplifiers (SSPAs) and Block Upconverters (BUCs) seeks well dynamic engineering professional.

This role will be responsible for driving technical innovation, improving operational processes, and overseeing the successful design and delivery of advanced microwave and satellite communication solutions.

Leading multiple engineering disciplines, the VP will ensure company stays at the forefront of industry advancements. The position also involves close collaboration with the CEO, executive leadership, product teams, and other departments to support the development of industry-leading technologies.

What You’ll Be Doing (A Day In The Life):

Leadership and Strategic Vision
  • Guide and inspire the engineering team, cultivating an environment of collaboration and innovation.
  • Develop and execute engineering strategies that align with company goals and market needs.
  • Partner with the COO and executive team to ensure engineering objectives support the broader business strategy.

Engineering Operations
  • Direct the design and development of high-performance microwave communication products, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet performance standards.
  • Align product capabilities with customer needs, supporting sales and business development in communicating technical advantages.
  • Collaborate with customers to understand technical requirements and ensure seamless delivery.
  • Continuously improve engineering processes for better efficiency, scalability, and quality.
  • Work with finance to plan budgets and allocate resources, ensuring the engineering team is equipped for both current and future needs.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives, collaborating with product management, manufacturing, and marketing teams to optimize product lifecycle management.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance profitability in product design without sacrificing performance, quality, or reliability.
  • Manage end-of-life product strategies, ensuring proper customer communication and support.
  • Contribute to business case discussions on new product initiatives and customer opportunities.

Technical Expertise and Innovation
  • Stay current on advancements in microwave communication technologies and integrate best practices into engineering processes.
  • Drive technical innovation in RF, microwave, and satellite communication systems, leveraging in-depth knowledge of high-frequency design and manufacturing.
  • Evaluate and adopt new tools, technologies, and methodologies to maintain leadership in the industry.
  • Oversee the transition from R&D to full-scale production, ensuring rigorous reliability and performance standards.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences as a technical expert to bolster marketing and visibility.

Team Leadership and Development
  • Build and nurture a high-performance engineering team, fostering an environment of learning and growth.
  • Identify and develop technical talent, promoting continuous professional development.
  • Establish clear goals for the engineering team, ensuring alignment with company-wide objectives.

Product and Technology Roadmap
  • Collaborate with the CEO, product management, and executive teams to define and refine the product roadmap, leading the development of new products.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of technology roadmaps that align with the company's long-term business objectives.
  • Act as a technical leader in key product decisions, ensuring that innovative, competitive solutions are delivered.

Compliance and Quality Assurance
  • Ensure that all engineering activities adhere to regulatory standards, certifications, and best practices.
  • Maintain the highest quality and reliability standards throughout both the development and production phases.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and performance.
  • Support compliance audits and certification processes for governmental, regulatory, and industry standards.

What Skills You'll Need To Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in RF, microwave, or satellite communications engineering, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role within the defense/aerospace sector.
  • Expertise in RF/microwave systems design, solid-state amplifiers, and satellite communication systems.
  • Proven experience in managing complex hardware and software systems from concept to production.
  • Strong leadership in managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams, setting clear goals, and driving performance.
  • Knowledge of IPC 610, MIL-STD-883, -750, -1580 standards, as well as ISO and AS controls and regulations.
  • Proficiency in MRP systems such as MAS90/Sage, SAP, or similar.
  • Expert-level knowledge in RF design tools like HFSS, Microwave Office, ADS, or CST.
  • Experience with database management systems like Omnify or similar.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Active or ability to obtain U.S. government security clearance.
