What We’re Looking For:
We are seeking a seasoned Business Development dynamo who will drive new sales growth and expand our geographic footprint with gas and electric utilities and the contractors that serve them; An experienced salesperson who has a consultative sales approach, with polished presentation skills, a knack for building rapport easily, deep utilities industry knowledge and a successful track record of consistently finding and closing new deals in the electric and/or gas utility industry.

Armed with a proactive mindset in the client-hunting process, the Director of Business Development understands how to approach the target market, and uncover new opportunities. They will be tenacious and with a proven ability to turn a “no” into a ”yes” by listening to the customer and adjusting the approach when needed. Skills selling strategic alliances on a corporate level will be an essential component of the role.

This is a remote position with ability to regularly travel within the US and Canada up to 75% of time.

A Day In The Life:
Ultimately, this role will be charged with seeking out new prospects as well as managing existing accounts, moving opportunities through the sales cycle, monitoring the results, quantifying the successes and shortfalls, making suggestions and adjustments as needed, and closing deals.

Additional Responsibilities To Include:

  • Leading onsite customer meetings and providing suggestions to customers for new and/or additional company services.
  • Negotiating and closing complex deals as a direct seller.
  • Identifying decision makers and selling at the appropriate level up to the executive level
  • Developing strong strategic relationships with decision makers at existing and target customers to facilitate the expansion of existing contracts and creation of new business contracts; actively soliciting additional business.
  • Expertly driving a consultative, end-to-end sales process to deliver the value of our services.
  • Meeting or exceeding quarterly sales quotas for net-new business.
  • Challenging and educating prospects to drive value through a deal’s trajectory
  • Maintaining accurate sales forecasting, reporting, pipeline forecasts and conversion rates to make data-driven decisions.
  • Developing winning client offers, proposals, and presentations.
  • Participating in/advising new go to market solutions and messaging
  • Collaborating effectively with company’s resources to build effective deal teams to improve our win rate.
  • Creating and executing a strategic sales plan for your opportunities by identifying key stakeholders, uncovering needs, and designing a strategic approach.
  • Understanding the core needs of each client type and building an effective value proposition.
  • Managing the overall relationship and communication with key prospects to include a full understanding of their business model, problems and needs, and how company addresses their needs and provides value
  • Defining and creating compelling win-win value propositions.
  • Continuously keeping sales pipeline full with quality leads.
  • Performing regular in-person visits to qualified prospects and customers to generate new sales.
  • Networking at industry events to expand our brand.

What You Must Have:

  • 7+ years sales experience, selling logistics / supply chain solutions directly to utilities.  
  • Experience in the utilities industry.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or other applicable field, or equivalent
  • Experience with contract development and management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficient MS Word, PowerPoint and
  • Ability to multitask, think strategically, problem solve and collaborate with team members
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, risk mitigation and project management
