Leader in the Global Aerospace market specializing in high volume and high mix products engineered of high quality precision parts seeks Research & Development Engineers with plastic injected molding experience.
Ideally, What You’ll Be Doing (Core Responsibilities):
The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership, conduct design activities and analytical studies on new product design proposals, develop and produce design and product definitions for new products and product families. Primary activities center around the design, validation, and justification of the full design definition for a product or technology with a primary focus on plastics.
More Of What You’ll Be Doing (Additional Responsibilities):
  • Manages R&D and new product development projects from concept development to design/product definition, verification and validation.           
  • Responsible for technical design activities within the scope of a R&D project.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform R&D, engineering and design tasks.
  • Interfaces with the project leader and project team, manufacturing plant representatives, test laboratory, and other organizations.
  • Coordinates or supports project planning activities for schedule, resources and cost.
  • Coordinates or supports project, product (such as Design for Cost), and manufacturing cost analysis.
  • Conducts Functional and Requirements Analysis, FMEA and project risk analysis, and build product specifications.
  • Analyzes research data and proposes product specifications to help determine feasibility of product proposal.
  • Performs R&D functions in selecting new applications, materials, manufacturing methods, finishes etc.
  • Helps to coordinate manufacturing and validation of prototype product.
  • Plans and develops experimental test programs.
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Provides support to manufacturing plant activities, which may include product qualification, problem solving analysis, stack up analysis, documentation updates and other communications.
  • Interacts and assists general product engineering in development and qualification of “me too” products.   
  • Confers with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develops design.
  • Interacts with customers, participates and assists customers in issuing new standards for developed new products.
  • Assists in answering to customer Requests for Information, proposals or technical meetings.
  • Prepares or coordinates preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings.
  • Participates in patent and licensing activities.
What You’ll Need To Have / Bring To The Position (Requirements):
  • A degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from a four year college.
  • Over 5 years related design and engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Relevant plastics design experience including plastic injection molding, plastic part design and designing for injection molding.
  • Proficiency with 3D modeling in CAD System (SolidWorks is preferred)
  • Proficiency with GD&T
  • Basic understanding and working knowledge of industry standards, Mil-Specs, general aircraft construction and aircraft industry trends, aircraft fasteners industry, aerospace specifications, metallurgy, processing, composite aircraft materials and processing, composite aircraft applications.

Design experience with typical Aerospace or high performance plastics and composites.
